Tournaments:

  1. All teams should be competing in both pre and post season tournaments to develop team play and competitive spirit, improve conditioning, experience a higher level of play and to have fun.
    .
  2. With your Coach, meet as soon after tryouts as possible to plan a schedule of tournaments that your Team will be playing in and visit the websites of those tournaments to determine entry deadlines, rules and team registration requirements. New teams will need to consider CYSA registration deadlines to be properly registered for tournaments. Do not go to too many tournaments in too short a period of time, as your players will burn out!
    .
  3. Determine with your Coach who will be responsible for entering the team in each tournament and registering the team during the week prior to the tournament. Some tournaments have gone to an on-line application, but many still require that you enter by mail. On-line applications require a credit card for payment of fees. Most coaches are very flexible regarding tournament entries, as long as everything is done in a timely fashion.
    .
  4. Prepare a Team binder with an official CYSA team roster (available online in 2004), the current CYSA player registration form for each player and a copy of each player’s birth certificate. Place your Coach’s, Manager’s and Player’s laminated CYSA identification cards on a ring. Put both forms and ringed cards in alphabetical order, with the Administrators cards up front. You will need these at tournament check in. You will also need to have them in your possession at each game.
    .
  5. You may need to fill out game cards at check in, or you may be able to do them on-line before the tournament.
    .
  6. Game cards and the ringed ID cards must be presented to either the Field Marshall or Referee prior to each game (tournaments vary), and you must retrieve the cards after each game. Referees will keep the cards of players receiving a Red Card. If you fail to retrieve the ringed ID cards and they are lost, your team will be required to order a new set from the Matrix Registrar at a cost of about $40 per set (in 2003) as per CYSA rules.
    .
  7. Coaches and Team Managers must display their Risk Management badges (blue for Coaches and white for Administrators) on a lanyard at all times. Teams may forfeit games if badges are not current and properly displayed.
